Formula Renault 2.0 NEC fourth event of the season met the drivers with tricky conditions. It was raining during one of the free practices, in qualifying and the first race in Spa-Francorchamps so the drivers had do adapt and show their best not just to score some valuable points but also just to stay in the track.
Max Defourny was the fastest man on Thursday in the training sessions. The Belgian driver wanted to overcome his rivals at his home track, but Lando Norris was the man in the first position in every session since the qualifying run has begun.
Norris took both pole positions and won both races of the Belgian event. Defourny took first place in the opening laps of Saturday’s dry race but had to yield to the attacks of Norris just a couple of minutes before race finish.
Thanks to his two victories Norris became the new NEC championship leader in 11 points in front of Dorian Boccolacci. Defourny holds 3rd place for now.
Robert Shwartzman was confident in all tricky conditions and scored his points for 6th and 8th places. He had a little accident with one of his opponents during the opening lap on Saturday but stayed on track and overtook several drivers after the restart.
Shwartzman is now 7th in the tournament rankings.
